CNN Legal Analyst Predicts Musk Will Go 'Crazy' Running 'Government Efficiency' Effort

The bureaucratic hoops Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will have to jump through as the heads of President-elect Donald Trump’s planned Department of Government Efficiency will drive them both “crazy,” predicted CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin. The legal analyst added that “you have to go through all these steps” to eliminate even one small “part” of a government department, let alone “the structure” of the Department of Education or any other federal entity that has existed for decades.Jeffrey Toobin noted Tuesday that “there is a very boring” but “very important law” that could hamper Donald Trump's plans.Trump went on to compare the effort, which is not an official government agency, to the Manhattan Project, which compartmentalized the secret development of the first atomic bomb during World War II.“Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies,” Trump said on social media when announcing the new entity, nicknamed DOGE, Tuesday.

Opinion | Russell Vought violated the law for Trump before. He'll do it again.

The Supreme Court has never had to weigh in on the Impoundment Control Act’s limits on the president. But William Rehnquist, then an assistant attorney general under Nixon at the Office of Legal Counsel, didn’t agree with Nixon that impoundment is constitutional. Russell Vought is reportedly the president-elect Donald Trump's choice to again become the director of the White House Office of Management and Budget.Amid the flurry of names being tapped to join President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration, I’ve been dreading one in particular: Russell Vought. He is the president-elect’s choice to again become the director of the White House Office of Management and Budget.Vought served as deputy OMB director for most of Trump’s term and as director in its final year. The Government Accountability Office determined while Vought was there that OMB violated federal law by following Trump’s orders to withhold money Congress had appropriated.Russell Vought, then-Acting Director of the Office of Management and Budget, during a press briefing at the White House in 2019.

Legal challenge to Rosebank oil and Jackdaw gas fields begins

These, he said, amounted to the companies arguing that they were “an innocent third party” who had reasonably relied on what appeared to be a “stable legal landscape” when making multi-million pound investment decisions. A legal challenge over the decision to give consent to the UK’s largest untapped oil field is taking place in Edinburgh. Both governments said it would not be appropriate to comment on live legal proceedings. The significant case could clarify governments' legal responsibilities in relation to climate change. On the contrary, argued Mr Duncan, the legal landscape had been far from stable and Rosebank’s developers Equinor and Ithaca were now “the beneficiaries of an unlawful decision,” who wanted the court “to allow them to continue to be the beneficiaries of an unlawful decision.”

South Korea martial law: What happens next?

"Yoon’s declaration of martial law appeared to be both legal overreach and a political miscalculation, unnecessarily risking South Korea’s economy and security," one expert, Leif-Eric Easley at Ewha University in Seoul said.
